RO Report for the 2022 Winter Medal Day 3
9 IOMs and 6 DF 95s took to the water at midday for a series of 15 heats in a light to very light and finally to a glassy calm wind for the couple of hours in the sunshine. (Ed: 15 boats but 14 skippers because Laurie had to pack up his IOM for a broken winch line. He admitted it would be quicker to switch to his DF 95 than to rig up another winch line)
The racing was consistently tight and well fought – rules acknowledged and tactics galore.
Both fleets started consistently well so that any mistake in the race cost the skipper dearly.
Going into Race 6 there was one point in it for line honours in the IOMs, so well done to Rick for rising to Clyde’s pressure in the last two races. Notice also how few points separate mid fleet boats.
Best comment came from Ric P when some skippers were noting how little wind there was in this south easterly. Ric had planned ahead by leaving his doors open at home to let the breeze through for him to tack up in the narrow band. One skipper suggested he could have moved the house to let everyone have a puff.
