Sunday 15 December saw thirty five members and partners / wives gathered around the club trailer for a relaxing mix of social and sailing time together. Their seasonal spirit and the bright sun warmed the conversation and the gusty wind provided exhilarating sailing.
Bruce encouraged up to fourteen skippers to race their yachts around his ever changing course for a short series of races before the first break for the Commodore’s Welcome and a short Prize Giving.
After welcoming everyone present, Commodore Paul noted the Club’s extraordinary achievements through 2019 and the way in which “grabbing life while we have it” is one of many common threads running through our enjoyment of radio sailing.
Three perpetual trophies were unveiled by Paul for presentation:
- The ‘Impromptu Sailor of the Year’ won by Gary ‘Tex’ Morton for his enthusiasm, huge involvement, quick humour, help for others and development of ideas
- The ‘Handicap Champion’ won by Canterbury J 234, sailed by Paul Johnson
- The PRSC Club Champion IOM won by 02 sailed by Keith May
Gareth L generously donated a bottle of superb wine to go with each trophy to help the winners celebrate their win.
Bruce got racing underway again while Laurie sizzled the sausages. Of special interest was Ben helming his new V10 “Orange Crush” (IOM 60), Phil Wynands giving his transmitter to a wide eyed and interested young lad who was out walking with his Mum, and Sheena having a go with IOM 86.
Sausages, onions, sauce and bread were enjoyed by all for lunch and our digestion was helped by good conversation, welcoming Shona Powell into the Club, and a few more races before we packed up.
A huge thanks to Bruce for his fun Race Officering and midnight food shopping, and Laurie for his excellent cooking and the loan of the BBQ.
